What is local SEO?
When someone in your town types "electrician near me", "AC repair Lafayette", "house cleaning Broussard" or "roofer in Carencro", Google tries to show businesses that are relevant to that service in that place. Local SEO is the work of making your website clearly, credibly one of those businesses.
It differs from general SEO in a simple way. A national brand wants to rank everywhere. You want to rank where your trucks go. That changes what matters: service area clarity, location-specific content, and the signals that tell Google where you operate and what you do there.
Why local SEO matters
Local searches are unusually valuable because the person searching is usually ready to act. Nobody searches "emergency plumber Youngsville" for fun. If your site is not clearly relevant for that search, the call goes to whoever is. Local SEO is how your website earns those moments.
What influences local relevance
- Service-area relevance. Does the site say, clearly and in normal language, which cities and neighborhoods you serve?
- Location content. Pages or sections that speak to a specific area, written for people there rather than pasted from a template.
- Local keyword targeting. Using the phrases customers actually use, which are often "service plus place", not industry jargon.
- Page titles and headings. The parts Google weighs most, saying the right service and the right place.
- Internal links. Connecting service pages and area pages so relevance flows through the site.
- Local structured data. Machine-readable business details (name, address, phone, service area, hours) that tell Google exactly who you are.
- Google-related local signals where applicable, such as consistency between your website and your Google Business Profile.
What Secret Systems does
Each month under Growth Starter we look at how your site performs for local searches and improve the pieces above where they will help. That may mean strengthening a service page around a city, adding an area section customers actually ask about, tightening titles and headings, fixing local structured data, or improving links between pages. Where Search Console is connected, we can see which local searches are already surfacing your site and build on them.
Example. A Lafayette HVAC company should be more relevant for "AC repair Lafayette" than for generic national HVAC searches. If their repair page never mentions Lafayette, has a title that just says "Services", and no structured data says where they operate, Google has little reason to prefer them locally. Fixing those three things is ordinary local SEO work.
Local SEO and your Google Business Profile
Your website and your Google Business Profile reinforce each other. The profile is Google's own listing for your business; the website is where Google verifies what you do and where. We keep the website side consistent with your profile (name, address, phone, services, areas). The profile itself is your account, and we are glad to advise on it.
How it fits into Growth Starter
What we do not promise
- We do not guarantee rankings, traffic or leads. No honest provider can. Local results also depend on factors outside the website, such as reviews and proximity.
- We do not create fake locations or claim service areas you do not serve.
- We do not manage third-party directory listings under Growth Starter, though we will tell you if one is inconsistent.
Frequently asked questions
Not necessarily. Thin, copy-pasted town pages tend to hurt more than help. We add area content where there is something genuine to say and enough demand to justify it, and strengthen existing service pages with area relevance otherwise.
No. Local SEO is about your website's relevance to local searches. Your Google Business Profile is Google's own listing and is managed in your Google account. They support each other, and we keep the website consistent with your profile.
Map results depend on your Google Business Profile, reviews, proximity and website relevance together. We improve the website part and advise on the rest. Nobody can guarantee a map position.
